The instructions below are for those who are not confident in navigating websites. Our hope is these instructions help make it easier to find your way around this website for Acton Genealogy.

  1. The "Welcome Message" is the main page, which you can access from anywhere inside the site by using your mouse to click on "Acton Genealogy" (very top left corner of the site) OR you can click directly on "Welcome Message" located in the light green bar.
  2. The light green bar is called the Main Menu that includes "Welcome Message", "Richard Acton Family Tree", "Samuel Acton Family Tree", "Ten on Ten", "Evolution of Farming", and "Horses of Stoney Ten".
    • You can hover (hold mouse over without clicking) over each "family tree" name to see a submenu, which lists each family member that you can click on to view their pages and/or hover to see another submenu to view more pages.
    • The "Welcome Message", "Ten on Ten", "Evolution of Farming", and "Horses of Stoney Ten". are direct page links to view messages or documents.
  3. There are also multiple links placed throughout the site to help make navigation easier.
    • A link to each member's page is placed within a family members 'card' of the family tree. For instance, if you go to the "Richard Acton Family Tree" and click on "Richard Acton & Annie McKinnon", their card pops up with information for each person and links (blue & underlined) at the bottom of each card will take you to their pages.
    • As well, relevant links are created in each family members page to help you get to other pages faster.
    • Further, a weblink directory is created when you navigate away from the main page. For instance, if you click on "Annie Belle McKinnon" page, you will see a grey bar with "You are here:" and only the blue text that follows is what you can click on to get back to that page.
  4. The "Search" bar at the top right corner of the site is helpful if you wish to search for any particular person and will generate a list of places in the site where you will be able to find information on that person.
  5. A small Facebook icon is found to the far right below the light green bar that allows you share the website on your Facebook page if you so wish.

Welcome to Acton Genealogy, a website dedicated to the Acton-McKinnon-Walker family history!

The site is built on extensive research conducted by the late Donald Findlay Acton (June 16, 1934 - April 29, 2023). With the help of Acton family and extended family members, Donald was able to create the “Ten on Ten”, a document filled with historical photographs and stories about the lives of those growing up on the Acton family farm.

Donald also put together “The Acton-McKinnon Heritage” book that contains exclusive Acton family tree data on places and dates of births, deaths, and marriages specific to Richard Arthur Acton & Annie Belle McKinnon (Donald’s Father and Mother) and Samuel Acton & Janet Walker (Donald’s Grandfather and Grandmother).

The “Ten on Ten”, "Legends Live On" and “The Acton-McKinnon Heritage” were all used as significant resources of information for the Acton Genealogy website, as approved by Donald’s wife, Sylvia Acton.

Please take note of a couple of things when viewing the site:

  1. To save space for each family tree, only three generations are listed in detail with census information, apart from Donald’s adding a fourth.
  2. For each page for Richard & Annie and Samuel & Janet, all other generations that follow are by original or maiden names only as the site is more about past family history than current.
  3. Listing only names for the fifth and sixth generations allows family members to see how much the family trees have grown since Samuel Acton & Janet Walker immigrated to Canada.

Thank you for taking the time to read the above information. if you have any questions, concerns or comments regarding the website, please reach out to Sylvia Acton.

Kind regards,
Sharon Henderson
Website Administrator

Acknowledgement

As Sharon has mentioned in her "Welcome Notes," this website will be maintained so that additions and updates regarding family may be made over the years to come. "Thank You" seems inadequate to recognize the incredible amount of hours that have brought this project to fruition.

In February of 2023, Don and Hannah hatched the plan to have Hannah find a Website Developer who could help make his genealogy archive accessible. She found Sharon! Don and Sharon began their communication regarding the content and possible format for the website before the project was abruptly placed on hold following Don's death in April 2023. Hannah, Sharon and I met in person in 2024 and then decided to go ahead with developing the site.

I wish to say a most sincere thank you to all the family members who have so willingly contributed the data we needed for the Family Tree. BettyLou Agnew (nee Switzer) has made a significant contribution in proofreading and checking for accuracy; thank you, BettyLou.

For me, bringing this website to Don's family has been a true "labour of love". It is an honour to have been a part of the Acton/McKinnon family for 60 plus years! Please help share this by sending it along our family lines, far and wide.

X Sylvia
